Description

Texas Roadhouse garlic butter chicken skillet comes together in your kitchen with tender chicken cooked in a rich garlic butter sauce that makes weeknight dinner feel restaurant-quality. Your skillet becomes the star of the table with this simple dish that brings big flavors to your family’s plates.

Ingredients

Scale

Proteins:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1.5 pounds)

Cooking fats and aromatics:

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and flavorings:

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat your 1.5 lbs of chicken breasts dry using paper towels, then sprinkle each piece with salt and black pepper to your liking.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it’s foaming and ready for your chicken.
  3. Place the chicken breasts in the hot skillet and let them cook undisturbed for 6-7 minutes at medium-high heat until the bottoms turn golden brown.
  4. Flip each piece over and cook for another 6-7 minutes at the same temperature until your chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. Transfer your cooked chicken to a plate and set it aside while you prepare the sauce.
  6. Lower your heat to medium and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the skillet.
  7. Stir in 4 minced garlic cloves and cook for about 1 minute at medium heat, stirring occasionally so the garlic becomes fragrant without browning.
  8. Pour 2 tablespoons of lemon juice into the skillet along with 1/4 cup of fresh chopped parsley and 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes, then stir everything together.
  9. Let this mixture simmer for 1-2 minutes at medium heat to blend the flavors.
  10. Return your chicken to the skillet and spoon the garlic butter sauce over each piece.
  11. Simmer everything together for 2-3 minutes at medium heat so your chicken absorbs the sauce flavors.
  12. Transfer your chicken to a serving platter and drizzle any remaining sauce from the skillet over the top before serving warm.

Notes

  • Drying your chicken breasts thoroughly before cooking helps them brown evenly and get that golden crust that makes this dish special.
  • Cook your chicken over medium-high heat without moving it around too much, since letting it sit undisturbed gives each side time to develop that beautiful golden color.
  • The garlic can burn quickly once added to the hot skillet, so keep the heat at medium and stir it constantly for just about a minute to keep it fragrant without turning bitter.
  • If red pepper flakes aren’t your thing or you’re cooking for someone who prefers milder flavors, just skip them or reduce the amount—the garlic butter sauce is delicious either way.
