Ingredients
Scale
Base ingredients:
- 3 cups cooked chicken, shredded
- 2 cups chicken stuffing mix
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup milk
Vegetables and seasonings:
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Heat your oven to 350°F before doing anything else.
- Combine 3 cups of your shredded chicken with 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 cup of chicken broth, and 1/2 cup of milk in a large bowl.
- Fold 1/2 cup of diced celery, 1/2 cup of diced onion, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper into the chicken mixture.
- Follow your stuffing mix package directions to prepare 2 cups of the dry mix, and let it sit while you handle the chicken layer.
- Transfer your chicken mixture into a greased casserole dish, spreading it in an even layer across the bottom.
- Distribute the prepared stuffing mixture evenly over the chicken layer.
- Place your casserole in the preheated 350°F oven for 30 to 35 minutes, checking when the stuffing develops a golden brown color on top.
Notes
- Let the chicken cool completely before mixing it in, so the hot ingredients don’t unevenly cook the other components and create dry spots in your casserole.
- Prepare your stuffing just before assembling the dish since it can become soggy if it sits too long in the liquid underneath.
- If you’re cooking for a gluten-free diet, swap the regular stuffing mix for a gluten-free version using the same amount and following those package directions.
- For a lighter version, replace the milk with low-sodium broth and use cream of mushroom soup instead, which keeps the dish moist while reducing richness.
